Xin chào, everyone. There’s some very exciting news to share with you all. In a fortnight’s time, I will be joining the world famous Desford Colliery Band for a week long tour in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Yes, I know… I kept that quiet! Opportunities like this hardly come knocking on your door, and words can’t describe how excited I am right now.
How did it come about?
Well, rather straight-forward actually. In the music business, it’s all about who you know. Adrian Clarke (a colleague teacher I work with in Grimsby) asked whether I’d like to go on tour to Vietnam. Of course, I said yes but still, I was quite amazed to be asked. Desford is after all one of the top bands in the country and I am sure that any number of top class cornet players would have been delighted to have been asked.
What else can you tell me?
The week long tour commences on Monday 28th October, performing in major concerts and running workshops for young Vietnamese players. We will be visiting an international school in the country’s capital, Ho Chi Minh City. Throughout the week, you will be able to keep tabs on my experiences right here on my website. It is quite simply an amazing opportunity, not just to experience a different culture, but to play alongside such amazingly talented, top class musicians.
Now for a little treat. Here’s a clip featuring the Desford Colliery Band.
