Hello and welcome to my website. My name is Andrew Taylor. There are so many exciting and pressing things I wish to share with you all. Most of the discussions here will have a musical ‘theme’ (excuse the pun), though I will occasionally divulge into other areas that interest me. But first…
… a little bit about myself and what I do.
Music has always been my life long passion and I am extremely proud and lucky to be doing it as a career. My very first music lesson was on cornet and think I was around 7 years old at the time. I dabbled with other instruments as all children do but as time progressed, I had a decision to make. Do I continue to play trombone or make head-way on the cornet? I plumped for the cornet! Sorry fellow trombonists!
Years passed by, working through my practical exams, and eventually I was accepted to study at the University of Huddersfield. Certainly the best years of my life and pleased to have earned a 2:1 Bachelor of Music (Hons) degree.
Now let’s transport ourselves to the present day. Currently, my work resides in Grimsby (North East Lincolnshire) as an ‘Instrumental Brass Tutor’. I have the pleasure of working with a plethora of young, talented musicians. They mainly take shape on a one-to-one basis or small group but I also teach music to a full class. Music education is very important to me and is one of the reasons why I have decided to create this website.
So why this blog?
Good question! Music had a profound effect on my life. Most of us have read the many benefits music brings (idea for another blog!). From experience, it appears music is becoming less accessible, particularly those on low income and it pains me they are missing out.
So it got me thinking. How can I help? Raising awareness is part of the solution and my blogs aim to do just that. Though I feel a more hands-on approach is required. That is why I have decided to create this website and in the future, a platform whereby I am able to share my experiences with the world; an attempt to inspire and educate the next generation of musicians.
My dream is to create educational videos for everyone to see, build an online community where we all help and support each other, make and share music. Most importantly, let’s have some fun! I hope you share my vision and no doubt see you again very soon!
