Born in Grimsby, Andrew picked up the trumpet at around the age of 8.
His musical journey began by learning the cornet with Alford Silver Band and later became principal cornet of Skegness Silver Band. He received tuition from trumpet virtuoso and respected brass teacher, Steve Walker.
Andrew graduated from the University of Huddersfield and during this time, had the pleasure of playing with numerous brass bands including Holme Silver, Kippax Band and Yorkshire Co-op Brass Band; the latter where he can be heard on the recording Ten! 10. His most memorable musical experience was accompanying Katherine Jenkins at the rugby league’s Super League final at Old Trafford with Yorkshire Co-op Brass Band.
Back 'home' in Lincolnshire, Andrew began his journey in music education. As well as teaching privately, he worked as an Accredited Teacher for the Music and Performing Arts Service in North East Lincolnshire, delivering private, small group tuition and Wider Opportunities.
Andrew extends his educational role as Musical Director of Brass Tracks (the training band of Alford Silver Band) with the vision of raising the profile of 'live music' and inspiring the next generation of musicians. Additionally, he supports workshops, demonstrations and concerts with other music professionals in schools and local venues.
When Andrew is not teaching, he frequently features in musicals including Crazy for You, 42nd Street, Oliver!, Oh, What a Lovely War!, Twang!!, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Calamity Jane and Sister Act. Working alongside the talented pianist Josh Wilkinson, Andrew has also performed in solo recitals.
Andrew proudly plays trumpet in his newly formed Brass Quintet 'Poacher Brass' and features some of the finest musicians the county has to offer, including David Pearce, Sam Baker and raising star Eddie Sellars who has began his studies at Chethams School of Music.
His other playing activities extend to Foss Dyke Brass Band (a winning 1st section band) and trumpet with Louth Wind Orchestra.
In his spare time Andrew also puts pen to paper, arranging many compositions for concert band and original compositions for his students.
